Thinking about livestreaming

Gonna test the waters before I actually do it. I’m going to be arranging “A Song about California” by Hey Ocean! for my a capella group soon, so would anybody be interested in seeing a livestream of that?

Hey there! Can I add you on Skype, so I can get some help with my DAW and otherwise chat?

New WIP! Debating whether or not to scrap it, because the only part I really like about it is the chorus. What do you guys think?

mlpmusicconfessions:

“I’ve taken to disliking about 95% of the musicians in this fandom. Most of them sit around and bash on each other all the time, which is fine, but it gets taken to extremes and blown out of proportion. And most of the so-called “musicians” make a few songs that get popular, than do nothing else at all. If you classify yourself as a musician, you should release more music tan a few songs. Yeah, people can wait for quality. But one every 2-3 months does’t make you a musician.”

Seriously?

Why don’t you try taking seventeen credit hours of hardcore computer science, math, and engineering courses, plus a ten-hour-a-week a capella rehearsal schedule on top of that and see how much quality music you can pump out in a month. Oh, did I mention I still have to practice the instruments I play? Or does that make me not a musician, too?

Professional musicians can release a good song every month — heck, sometimes a good song every week — because they’re PROFESSIONAL. They have the huge chunks of time to devote to writing music, as opposed to most of us only having a couple hours a day to do anything. And if you think you can write anything in a series of separated hour-and-a-half blocks, you are sorely mistaken.

Fuck anonymous pony confessions; the ones I submit never get fucking posted anyway and I need to vent.

I’m honestly sick of bronies pirating music software. It’s really grating on me, and I feel like I’m in the complete minority of having 100% purchased plugins and software. I don’t care if you…

Story time with H8_Seed! Not meant to offend anybody, but if it does, there’s not much I can do about it.

When I was in grade school and everybody was picking up instruments to play for band and orchestra, I wanted more than anything to play the viola. Unfortunately, as these things tend to happen, my mom did not have enough money to purchase one, and I got shafted and sent to piano class with a teacher that made me grow to hate music.

It’s probably the single biggest regret of my life that I never became a viola player, but I just couldn’t afford it.

Back when I was in college, I volunteered at a place called the Joy of Music school, a charity foundation where kids didn’t have to worry about how expensive their instrument was. With the exclusion of harps, pianos, and certain percussion instruments, every child was given the instrument of their choice free of charge.

While it would be ideal if everybody could purchase the software, we often can’t, and my philosophy is that the cost of the instrument should never be a prohibitor for getting someone involved with music. Ever. Period.

Okay yeah this one

Nailed it, h8.

Reblogged for serious truth.

While I’m sorry you feel this frustrated about it (it really is as bad as you say — I’m not denying that torrents run amok in the brony music community), I have to disagree with you. As a college student (in a completely non-music-related field) who makes music purely because it’s fun, there is absolutely no justifiable reason for me to spend a grand on music software just to do what I want to do. And I’m not talking about substituting simple, free plugins with fancy ones — the DAW alone will run you half a grand, depending on the program, and if you want to make orchestral music, good luck making anything not sound like shit! Sibelius alone is $400 with absolutely no free alternatives. (Don’t even get me started on Finale Notepad.)

The grand majority of brony musicians are amateurs who have absolutely no reason to splurge $500 on a hobby that might end up being a passing fancy. Eventually, when I get a real source of income, I’ll buy the stuff I stole. But until then, I’ll make the best of what I have.

Those people that think they’re better than you because they pirated their shit and you didn’t, though? Yeah, they’ll get no love from me either.
